Caring for Aging Parents: The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Founder Victoria L Collier Talks About How Children Don’t Always Plan For Aging Parents Despite Good Intentions

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney, Victoria Collier talks about how frequently even the most ardent promises made by adult children caring for aging parents go unfulfilled.

DECATUR, GA, January 4, 2019: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new blog on her law firm’s website entitled “When Life Gets In The Way And Promises Go Unfulfilled.”

In the article, Ms. Collier doesn’t blame or point fingers. She merely points out how difficult it can be when caring for aging parents to anticipate and meet their needs in the midst of a busy life.

As Collier points out, “Life rarely goes exactly the way we want it to.” She continues, “Especially as we move into our elder years. It is not at all uncommon for those people we have referred to as our parents to become frail, vulnerable and actually die. And, the tough part is that both parents don’t always pass on at the same time or even close to the same time. Very often, one spouse gets left behind.”

“Whether both parents slip into old age together or not,” says Collier, “whether one departs earlier than the other or not, children are often expected to become caregivers for their aging parents. It isn’t always a welcome task.”

According to Collier, “Many times in the past, people would have children with the express intent of having someone to care for them when they got old.” She concludes, “I imagine some people still do have this in mind when they start their families.” Collier knowingly adds, “Often the adult children think they will be able to step in to help their parents during this end of life stage. But, as I said in the beginning, life rarely goes the way we’d like it to.”
