The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, Shannon Pawley, Discusses The Growing Importance Of Estate Planning For Young Families.

Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, Shannon Pawley, talks about how planning for a child’s arrival needs to include planning for unexpected tragedies that could orphan minor children.

DECATUR, GA, June 29, 2022: Shannon Pawley, Owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on the law firm’s website entitled “The Power Of Estate Planning For Young Families,” in which Ms. Pawley emphasizes the responsibility that includes “planning for the worst and expecting the best.”

“Planning a family is one of the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding life events young couples embark upon,” Pawley writes, adding, “Being blessed with a child is truly one of life’s most precious gifts.” Pawley emphasizes, “Planning for the arrival of a child should also include planning for unexpected accidents or illnesses that could take you, the parents, out of your child’s life. I know that seems a morbid thought, but it certainly isn’t. It is a sign of true responsibility.”

As Pawley points out, “If we’ve learned anything at all from the recent pandemic, it is that anything can happen.” She states, “One of the most tragic results of the pandemic is that “140,000 children under age 18 in the United States lost a parent, custodial grandparent, or grandparent caregiver who provided the child’s home and basic needs, including love, security, and daily care.”

Pawley reminds her readers, “Besides the pandemic, children are orphaned every year due to unforeseen accidents and illnesses. Being prepared for the worst and expecting the best is the philosophy underlying the importance of young parents establishing an estate plan. You establish legal guardians for your child.” She adds, “Without legal documents, the local court would choose someone to raise your child without your input. The common choice of the courts is usually a family member. If there are no family members, young children get put into the foster care system.”

It’s a fact that Pawley reiterates, “No one ever knows what life has in store.” She continues, “We all go about our business as best we can. We are accustomed to having automobile insurance and health insurance simply because the odds of getting into a fender bender and having a variety of health issues is commonplace. Having an estate plan needs to become as commonplace too. The world is moving faster than ever in this digital age, and we are facing threats to our health and our lives that have never been seen before.”

In our firm, WE BELIEVE that people should not have to lose everything they’ve worked a lifetime to earn and that every person is an individual who deserves respect and the highest quality of life possible, regardless of age or ability. We also believe that privacy and protection are the keys to personal peace. Born and raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia to a tightknit family with strong military service roots, Shannon learned from an early age the value of hard work and the importance of social awareness to ensure you always leave a situation in a better place than how you entered it. In her junior year of high school, Shannon served as U.S. House of Representatives Page during the 101st United States Congressional Session in Washington, D.C. This experience exposed her to numerous new cultures and worldly issues. Walking away from her experience as a U.S. House of Representative Page, Shannon knew that she wanted to pursue legal studies and be able to assist others in obtaining the best results available in difficult situations.
Shannon earned her undergraduate degree at North Carolina Wesleyan College and pursued a law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. After obtaining her law degree and becoming a licensed attorney in Michigan, she continued her educational pursuit by acquiring a LL.M. (Master of Law) in Taxation from Wayne State University. After moving to Georgia in 2018, Shannon obtained her Georgia law license and has enjoyed being able to pursue her desire of ensuring persons are able to age with dignity, grace and independence.
