The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Owner, Shannon Pawley, Addresses All The People Who Ask Her About Using Legal Zoom.

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney and Owner, Shannon Pawley, discusses the difference between hiring a reputable attorney and depending on do-it-yourself online legal forms and services and cautions readers about services like Legal Zoom.

DECATUR, GA, August 20, 2021: Shannon Pawley, Owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on the law firm’s website entitled “When Legal Zoom Should Not Even Be A Question,” in which Ms. Pawley clearly explains her point of view.

Pawley writes, “To my way of thinking, the attorney-client relationship is among the most sacred. It is a relationship founded on a deep sense of trust.” She continues, “I do everything in my power to ensure my clients feel secure in trusting me when placing their legal concerns in my hands. To gain a client’s trust is a privilege. So, when I start getting questions about online sites like Legal Zoom for wills and estate plans, the red flags start flying.”

According to Pawley, “The digital age has lured so many people into thinking that anything and everything can be accomplished online. Google this and Google that and you have answers that once would have taken a researcher weeks to discover. However,” she adds, “the legal system is so complex, so specific in its language and meaning that online legal services can in no way replicate, duplicate or even approximate the services of a reputable, experienced and devoted attorney.” As Pawley points out, “When you need legal documents that are meant to protect your businesses, your assets and to benefit your heirs according to your specifications, you want to know that the documents you have will stand up in court and will actually accomplish what you want them to.”

Pawley states, “Free basic legal forms have been available online for many years.” She further elaborates, “The documents vary state-to-state, so it doesn’t make sense to pay an online service for documents that may or may not be the right ones for your state or county and may not stand up in court when you can get them for free.” Pawley emphasizes, “Legal forms and documents are created to provide peace of mind and protection. Incorrect and inadequately drafted legal documents are just flimsy pieces of paper that could end up being the most expensive pieces of paper you’ve possessed.” Pawley states, “I can say this with certainty: Under no circumstances should you use DIY legal forms for any will or estate planning that includes a list of beneficiaries.”

“As an estate and asset protection attorney,” Pawley explains, “I deal with some of the most complex legal issues involving family members who are often surprised at the reading of a will. Believe me when I tell you, there are few things that can be more damaging to a well thought out estate plan than when a disgruntled heir or relative challenges the validity of a will and succeeds in having a court declare it invalid. I have not had the experience, but I do know people who have.”

About Shannon M. Pawley, J.D., LL.M

As the owner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, Shannon M. Pawley and her entire team share a passion which focuses on being able to serve the legal needs of retiring individuals. In our firm, WE BELIEVE that people should not have to lose everything they’ve worked a lifetime to earn and that every person is an individual who deserves respect and the highest quality of life possible, regardless of age or ability. We also believe that privacy and protection are the keys to personal peace. Born and raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia to a tightknit family with strong military service roots, Shannon learned from an early age the value of hard work and the importance of social awareness to ensure you always leave a situation in a better place than how you entered it. In her junior year of high school, Shannon served as U.S. House of Representatives Page during the 101st United States Congressional Session in Washington, D.C. This experience exposed her to numerous new cultures and worldly issues. Walking away from her experience as a U.S. House of Representative Page, Shannon knew that she wanted to pursue legal studies and be able to assist others in obtaining the best results available in difficult situations.

Shannon earned her undergraduate degree at North Carolina Wesleyan College and pursued a law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. After obtaining her law degree and becoming a licensed attorney in Michigan, she continued her educational pursuit by acquiring a LL.M. (Master of Law) in Taxation from Wayne State University. After moving to Georgia in 2018, Shannon obtained her Georgia law license and has enjoyed being able to pursue her desire of ensuring persons are able to age with dignity, grace and independence.
