The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Managing Partner, Shannon Pawley, Provides Ideas That May Help Alleviate The Guilt Caregivers Feel When Placing Loved Ones In Nursing Homes.

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney and Managing Partner, Shannon Pawley, acknowledges how difficult it is to put loved ones in nursing home care and provides a few ideas that may help relieve the guilt so many people experience before, during and after the decision has been made.

DECATUR, GA, April 02, 2021: Shannon Pawley, Managing Partner of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on the law firm’s website entitled “A Little Help To Ease The Guilt Putting A Loved One In A Nursing Home.” Ms. Pawley offers a compassionate hand to caregivers and family members who often suffer guilt long after their loved ones have been relocated.

Pawley writes, “Making the decision to put a loved one – be it a parent, spouse, relative or other loved one – into a nursing home has always been difficult even under the very best of circumstances. During COVID-19,” she emphasizes, “making this same decision can be devastating for caregivers.”

According to Pawley, “The heart-wrenching truth is that sometimes this move must be made.” She quickly adds, “I’m fully aware that statement doesn’t help ease the guilt. Some of my clients have never gotten over the guilt of putting their loved one in a nursing home. However,” she writes, “I hope that some of the following ideas I have pulled together from agingcare.com, will help relieve you of your suffering whether you are currently in the midst of making the decision or have already put your loved one in a nursing home.”

Among the ideas is this one that Pawley states is, “First and foremost. “Realize that you didn’t cause your loved one’s illnesses or age-related decline. Whether facing age-related issues or a progressive illness like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, your loved one would still have to deal with their declining health whether you continued functioning as their sole caregiver or chose to bring in outside help.”

After elaborating on several more ideas, Pawley writes, “Prior to making the decision to move a loved one into an assisted living/nursing home facility, make sure their paperwork is in order. Perhaps their Estate and Asset Protection plan needs to be updated. If you would like us to review your loved ones plans, give us a call. Making sure everything is updated and provides the proper care for your loved one will also help relieve you of any lingering doubt or guilt.”

About Shannon M. Pawley, J.D., LL.M

Shannon is the firm’s Managing Partner.  Born and raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia to a tightknit family with strong military service roots, Shannon learned from an early age the value of hard work and the importance of social awareness to ensure you always leave a situation in a better place than how you entered it.  In her junior year of high school, Shannon served as U.S. House of Representatives Page during the 101st United States Congressional Session in Washington, D.C.  This experience exposed her to numerous new cultures and worldly issues.  Walking away from her experience as a U.S. House of Representative Page, Shannon knew that she wanted to pursue legal studies and be able to assist others in obtaining the best results available in difficult situations.

Shannon earned her undergraduate degree at North Carolina Wesleyan College and pursued a law degree from Michigan State University College of Law.  After obtaining her law degree and becoming a licensed attorney in Michigan, she continued her educational pursuit by acquiring a LL.M.
