A Well Thought Out Estate Planning Strategy Is The Perfect Gift

estate planning strategy with a well thought out estate plan atlanta georgia

Here we are again moving into another holiday season and the end of another year fraught with ongoing fears about COVID-19 and its parade of variants.

If there’s ever been a reason to establish a well thought out estate planning strategy, living in a pandemic environment is a very clear catalyst for the need for well-founded planning.

However, a friend recently sent me something she found on Facebook that, in my book, rivals the urgency provided by the pandemic.

And I quote:

“Well, it’s done. My parents’ divorce was finalized yesterday. They are no longer married after 52 years. Still in love and still together but divorce was necessary because of dad’s medical bills. Now, when dad passes, mom won’t be saddled with $288,000 in debt. She’s free and the house is in her name. Pretty sad that decades of marriage comes to an end because of the American medical system.”

What a heartbreaking and drastic way to deal with medical expenses. I’m sure there were also costs associated with getting a divorce that could have been avoided. I don’t know the person who posted this story, nor do I know the circumstances that led her parents to the decision to divorce. But I do know that divorce is not a common technique used in estate planning.

With a solid estate plan in place you work with your attorney to make sure your expenses will be handled.

There are so many options to provide for medical expenses. You plan for the worst-case scenarios and hope you never have to exercise them. But if you do, you know you are prepared.

Having a solid estate plan established for the security of your family and loved ones is the absolute perfect gift. And with all the uncertainty we’ve been living with during the past couple of years, there is no time like the present to ensure your family’s protection. Give our office a call and let’s get your family the gift of security with a well thought out estate planning strategy.
