Protect Your Children And Build A Strong Financial Base

life insurance

It’s back to school time and those of you with young children have already sent them off to a new school year. Or, if you have very young children you may be imagining what it will be like when you send your little one off to school for the first time.

No matter how old your children are, the one thing no parent wants to think about is having to deal with an unexpected tragic event.

Unfortunately, we live in a society that doesn’t have our children’s best interest at heart. So, as parents we must all take greater precautions than ever before.

One of those precautions is whole life insurance for children under your care. Most adults put off thinking about having their own life insurance policy let alone a policy for a child. But, today, as never before, it is of utmost importance.

There are many things that can occur in a child’s life. Accidents happen frequently. Unexpected illnesses occur. A life insurance policy for a child is a great way to provide for care in the event of accidents or illness. And, for children who do develop illnesses that might otherwise prevent them from qualifying for insurance later in life, a child policy will guarantee they will always qualify for coverage.

Accidents Happen

Many children have accidents and some of the most recent statistics from the National Safety Council, the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, and other sources speak to the many reasons parents would want to be prepared for the unexpected.

  • Injury is the leading cause of death in children and young adults. According to the CDC, approximately 12,000 children and young adults, ages 1 to 19 years, die from unintentional injuries each year.
  • Falls are the leading cause of nonfatal injury for children. Children ages 19 and under account for about 8,000 fall-related visits to hospital emergency rooms every day.
  • Each year about 100 children are killed and 254,000 are injured as a result of bicycle-related accidents.
  • Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4. The majority of drownings and near-drownings occur in residential swimming pools and in open water sites. However, children can drown in as little as one inch of water.
  • Airway obstruction injury (suffocation) is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among infants under age 1.
Each year, about 2,000 children ages 14 and under die as a result of a home injury. Unintentional home injury deaths to children are caused primarily by fire and burns, suffocation, drowning, firearms, falls, choking, and poisoning.

And, The Most Tragic Event Of All

The number of children who are injured and die from gunshot wounds in this country is a travesty. It’s impossible to predict if children are safe in any school in any part of the country anymore. It’s impossible to predict if they are safe anywhere. The statistics are horrifying. According to a study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics, every day, 19 children are shot in America. Nearly 1,300 kids under the age of 18 die every year from gunshot wounds, and almost 6,000 go to the hospital for non-fatal firearm injuries.

No one wants to think about the possibility of a child being injured or killed. It’s absolutely devastating to consider, but as parents we must take it into consideration. If tragedy should strike, you certainly don’t want to have deal with a devastating financial burden too. And, on a happier note, if nothing happens you will be building a financial foundation for your child.
